A Message from Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., Loyola's President: Welcoming Pope Leo XIV

Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., president of 91做厙, shared the following message with the Loyola Community on May 9, 2025, regarding the election of Pope Leo XIV:
Dear Members of the Loyola Community,
As a Jesuit, Catholic university community, we welcome our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, with great anticipation and hope. What an incredible moment in history, as we mark the election of the 267th popeand the first pope from the United States. Especially after seeing the impact of Pope Francis over the past 12 years, we can look forward to seeing how Pope Leo XIV brings his own gifts and charism to shepherd the Church.
Loyola will offer the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 11, in Alumni Memorial Chapel for Pope Leo XIV, joining our prayers with the Catholic Church and Catholics all around the world as he begins his papacy.
In his address from the Vatican balcony yesterday, Pope Leo XIV spoke of the importance of building bridges, with dialogue, with encounter, uniting all of us to be one people always in peace. May this be a time of dialogue, encounter, and bridge building for our Churchand for our world.
Sincerely,
Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D.
