Scott Batchelor studies BSc (Hons) Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation Science at 91 University College and is currently in his Second Year. Scott shares with us what he loves most about being a student at the University College: from his love of research, to teaching staff that lead the industry, to ‘pulling off a double’ as part of the 91 football team.

Scott said:

“I love the close-knit community here at 91 University College. That’s what really appealed to me about studying here. I felt the lecturers really took their time to talk to students and explain things to us. That really stood out to me.

“The facilities are great too. The Sport Performance Centre that we have on site is amazing and has 100% enhanced my studies. We’ve been able to practice using state-of-the-art equipment and learning how we can use it within a rehab setting to help patients.

“The wet lab is also an amazing facility to help our learning when it comes to studying anatomy.

“I’m really excited about graduating. We’re lucky in that this course can lead to a really diverse range of job roles. All our lecturers are from top-level professional backgrounds. They work for high-profile sports organisations and support some of the top sports people playing at the moment. It’s reassuring to know there are lots of different avenues to pursue.

“The research that staff are involved in is also really impressive. I know that what we’re learning is up-to-date information that is highly relevant to industry. We learn how to challenge and interrogate everything through a scientific approach.

“When I graduate, I’d really like to explore a neurological rehabilitation route. I’d like to work with people who are living with challenging conditions, such Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease, or who have had a stroke.

“There’s also lots of opportunities to get involved in University Life. I work as an Ultrasound model and as a Student Ambassador. Last year, I played on the University College football team and we had a fantastic season. We won the League and the BUCS Western Conference Cup, which felt great.

“My advice to new students would be to always try and learn a bit more – and enjoy it too. Being able to enjoy learning extra information will help you in the long run. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but some extra reading here and there is really beneficial.”
