MSc Chiropractic

This alternative route to your chiropractic qualification promotes a self-directed focus on research, data collection and analysis whilst you benefit from a two year experiential placement in our on-site chiropractic clinic.

Course overview

The General Chiropractic Council and European Council on Chiropractic Education recognised MSc Chiropractic course, is specifically designed for students currently studying a chiropractic course, but who wish to complete their studies with a postgraduate MSc qualification. An MSc may be desirable if you are considering a career in research or academia, or may be preferred by some national associations.

Through our MSc Chiropractic course you will build on your practical skills and knowledge to develop your assessment and management of chiropractic patients.

You will learn more about research, progressing your existing research methodology knowledge, which will inform your own research study. To help you complete your research you will be allocated a research supervisor and have access to specialist equipment and software to collect and analyse data.泭

Your two-year placement will be in our on-site chiropractic clinic, a high-quality healthcare facility offering musculoskeletal care to a richly diverse patient population. Here you will gain hands-on clinical experience under direct supervision of experienced and registered clinical tutors, including chiropractors and other healthcare professionals. Your self-directed study will be enhanced by your real-world experience, where you will interact, engage and work with other healthcare practitioners, growing your knowledge and confidence in a supportive, challenging and caring environment.泭

Observations with other allied health professions will allow you to contextualise the role of chiropractors within the wider health community and will be arranged by our course team, alongside you being able to arrange your own observational opportunities from which you can learn and reflect.

In addition, you will study clinical audit and the use of research in clinical practice. You will develop your understanding of professional and ethical clinical practice and develop as a professional through reflection. You will also learn the basics of marketing and small business management. All of your study will culminate in you being able to practice as a competent chiropractor who is able to practice in a patient centred and evidence-informed way, and who is able to undertake continuing professional development.泭

In a modern healthcare profession it is vital that you have the technical knowledge and a wide range of transferable skills including critical thinking, research skills, IT skills, communication skills and the ability to undertake continuing professional development, so we provide a blended teaching and learning approach to encourage you to develop as independent learners.

Our mix of traditional and innovative learning and teaching methods, such as lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, practical skills classes, e-learning, videos, quizzes and self-directed study, are combined to provide you with the best learning experience.

As part of the MSc Chiropractic course you will undertake an invaluable clinical internship under the supervision, guidance and support of a multidisciplinary team where you will continue your learning through experiential and reflective clinical practice.

During the internship you will discuss your patient management, providing the best available evidence and reasoning in supporting your choices as a healthcare professional. This process will allow you to be continuously challenged and pushed in your critical awareness, allowing reflection on your own beliefs and opinions in light of contemporary clinical research.

Explore the meaning of professional practice and apply your improved reflective and research skills to these concepts, alongside developing, designing and implementing your own research to explore the field of scientific data collection within the modern healthcare arena.

How you will be assessed
