This pre-registration course offers a fast-track into a rewarding career as a speech and language therapist helping people to enjoy a greater quality of life. This course will empower you to diagnose communication and swallowing problems in babies, children and adults, and design and deliver life-improving treatment plans for those with autism, cleft palate, hearing impairment, stammering, stroke and a wide variety of other conditions.

While studying on the course you will learn how to build successful therapeutic relationships with your clients/patients, giving them the confidence and empowerment to support their own treatment plans. You will also develop a patient-centred approach to practice and an understanding of the mental health challenges that might also be experienced by the clients/patients you work with.

This course aims to develop highly skilled evidence-based speech and language therapists who adopt a patient-centred approach to practice; prepared for the challenges of an advancing profession and evolving patient/client needs.

She is a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist, with over 18 years of experience within the NHS and the private sector and aims to develop the next generation of competent evidence-based Speech and Language Therapists.

Course details

We utilise a diverse range of delivery approaches including:

  • seminars
  • workshops
  • practice sessions
  • manual skills and practice labs
  • placement opportunities
  • peer and expert observations
  • online learning
  • practical laboratory sessions

Teaching uses a blended approach of both online delivery and on-campus face-to-face sessions (seminars, workshops, tutorials etc.)

Indicative study time:

This is a full time course which includes:

  • 10-12hrs per week on-campus face-to-face taught sessions
  • 10-12hrs per week directed study
  • 10-12hrs per week independent study 泭

There are three mandatory clinical placements as part of the course, these are:

  • Six week block placements
  • Four days a week (with one day for independent study or attendance at tutorials)
  • One placement within the first year of study (summer)
  • Two placements within the second year of study (spring and summer)

Assessments are conducted though a range of contemporary approaches. Alongside more traditional dissertation and essay assessments students will also:

  • write blogs
  • produce short videos
  • engage with social media
  • write consultancy reports
  • engage in debates

Entry Requirements

What qualification do I need?

A minimum of a 2:2 (Hons) degree in a relevant subject. Examples of relevant subjects include psychology, language, linguistics, biological science, medical science and childhood or education studies.

Alternatively, have significant recent relevant work experience (e.g., working as a Speech and Language therapy assistant).

Is there anything else that is required?

*Please note: You are required to have an occupational health screening prior to commencement on the course*

If you live in the UK, well need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS) check. Its standard for all UK students and well be there to guide you through the process once youve applied.

To gain a place on the course applicants must also successfully undergo an interview process. More information about this process will be provided if/when applicants are invited to the interview stage.

International Students

International students will be required to pay a non-refundable 瞿1,000 tuition fee deposit to secure their place on the course. These deposits will need to be paid by November 30th 2023 and more details will be provided in your offer email.

Please note to be accepted onto this course; you will also need to demonstrate that you meet the minimum standards of English. For this course, The HCPC Standards of Proficiency for SLTs for entry to the profession state that SLTs must: Be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent to level 8 of the International English Language Testing System, with no element below 7.5 applicants are required to achieve the equivalent of an IELTS (academic) score of 8.0 or above with no less than 7.5 in each section.
